The Study to establish a Master Plan and Assess the Feasibility of Water Resources Development Project in Dry Areas in Karnchanaburi and Supan Buri Provinces – Royal Irrigation Department

The work involved the establishment of a master plan for the development of water resources in the dry areas of Karnchanaburi and Supan Buri provinces covering 5 districts i.e. Nong Prue, Bo Phloi, Lao Khwan, Huai Krachao (in Karnchanaburi) and Dan Chang (in Supan Buri).   The master plan is divided into two categories; one is for the development of water resources and the other is for the implementation of water diversion system, covering 1,508 projects classified as emergency, short-term, medium-term or long-term requirements as the case may be.  The work also involved the consideration to select two projects for studies to assess their feasibility and initial environmental impacts, which are:

1)  The project involved the construction of Lam Taphoen -Bon reservoir and the establishment of water diversion system linking  to Huai Thian reservoir and Nong Masang storage pond.  The construction site of Lam Taphoen -Bon reservoir is in Ong Phra sub-district, Dan Chang district, Supan Buri province.  The reservoir is a typical earth core rock fill dam with the water retention capacity of 10.66 million cu.m together with the water diversion system by a gravity-operated water pipeline from Lam Taphoen -Bon reservoir to fill Huai Thian reservoir, and supply for agricultural areas and storage ponds along the way the water is diverted or runs past, with the aid of a  82 km long pipeline.  The total beneficial area is 19,519 rais.

2)  The project involved the construction of Phu Plakang reservoir (expanded) and the establishment of water diversion system linking the Lam Taphoen -Bon reservoir – Huai Thaweep reservoir – Phu Plakang reservoir (expanded).  The construction site of Phu Plakang reservoir (expanded) is in Nikom Krasieo sub-district, Dan Chang district, Supan Buri province.  The reservoir is a typical earth dam with the water retention capacity of 23.8 million cu.m together with the water diversion system by a gravity-operated water pipeline from Lam Taphoen -Bon reservoir to Huai Thaweep reservoir and then to Phu Plakang reservoir (expanded).  The pipeline is 50.09 km long and the total beneficial area is 24,740 rais.
